The status of the passport application can be checked with the following steps:

1)Visit the official website of Passport India

2)Click on “track your application status” on the homepage of the website.

3)After this the user will be redirected to a page where the following details are to be provided:

a)The user is required to select the type of passport, that is, general application status, diplomatic/official application status or RTI status.

b)after selecting the type of passport, the user is required to provide the 15 digit file number. The file number of the application is provided in the acknowledgment slip generated at the time of submission of the passport application.

c)In the last field, the user is required to provide his/her date of birth and click on “submit”

d)After this, the user will be redirected to a “status tracker” page. This page contains the file name, the name of the passport applicant, date of application and the current status of passport.

In order to use this facility, the user is required to enroll for this service at the passport center at the time of submission of passport application. A one-time payment of Rs 30 will be asked for the service at the time of enrollment. The benefit of this service is this that any progress in the passport status will be automatically sent to the applicant. Further, with this service, the applicant can check the passport status any time by sending an SMS by typing STATUS and then the 15 digits alpha-numeric file number and then send it to 9704100100.

The Passport Seva Application can also be used for knowing the passport status. The App is supported in both IOS as well in android phones. To know the Passport application status the user is required to provide his or her date birth and the 15-digit alpha numeric file number provided in the acknowledgment slip.

The Passport status can also be enquired by calling the tollfree number of the Passport National Helpline, that is, 18002581800.The call center services are available for 24 hours a day except for citizen service executive which is available only from 8 am to 10 pm.

Every Passport Seva Kendra comprises of a helpdesk that deals with the passport related queries of people. The helpdesk also provides email services so that a person can reach out to them in case of any queries.

It must be noted that while requesting for the status of the passport application via any above methods, the result of the application status will necessarily be of 6 types ,i.e, application submitted, application under review, police verification initiated/pending, police verification submitted/under review/not clear, passport granted/returned/undelivered/dispatched or as PCC application forwarded/granted.
